When I Grow Up

We have all been asked this question at numerous points in our lives. What do you want to be when you grow up? I want to be an astronaut. I want to be a pilot. I want to be a unicorn.  I think back on what I wanted to be as a kid and the earliest thing I remember was my dream to be a teacher. I had a really cool teacher at the time, Miss Dow. I loved her so much. She made learning fun and I truly looked forward to everyday spent in her class. What more could you want hanging out with all of us students all day, haha. When you look back at your dreams over time, you can see how they have evolved. How they change with knowledge of your skills and strengths. How they change with experience. How they change to fit and support the people that are a part of your life. How they change due to some of the circumstances life has thrown your way. I look back to that time of wanting to be a teacher and how that has evolved in some ways to the person I am today. Here I am Mom of two, one of the biggest teaching roles there is.

Some might say that wasn't a big dream back then and that my life is pretty average now. But you can't help what you dream for or what you want to get out of life. For someone else this life might not be enough and for others it may be their dream. I just hope that no matter where you are and what you want, you always continue to dream. Also to not be disappointed when it evolves into something else. I like to think that maybe the little astronaut will always love the stars, the little pilot will always love the feeling of being in the sky, and that the little unicorn will always be the creative mind that keeps us thinking outside the box. And who knows, maybe those little teachers were always destined to teach. What do you want to be when you grow up?
